Features · Keep operations running
Know when order emails stop leaving the site.
Order confirmations, password resets and form notifications all go through the site’s mailer. Operanse counts every message handed to it, says why any were refused, and notices when a site that usually sends goes quiet.
On Monitor and Insight
reason authentication refused · wp-mail-smtp · 92 of 98 since 16:00
The orders keep coming. The emails stop.
An SMTP password is rotated, an API key is revoked or the provider runs out of credits. Checkout still works, so nothing looks wrong, but no customer gets a confirmation. The first sign is usually a customer asking where their email is.
- “I didn’t get my order confirmation” in the support inbox.
- Password resets that never arrive.
- Staging copied to live with sending still switched off.
What you can see
Refusals, with a reason
Every message handed to the mailer is counted as accepted or refused, whichever mailer plugin or provider the site uses. A refusal carries a short category: authentication refused, server unreachable, provider API refused or failed, address rejected, timed out.
That is a starting point, and it never needs the email itself.
| category | mailer | count | status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Authentication refused | wp-mail-smtp | 91 | refused |
| Address rejected | wp-mail-smtp | 1 | refused |
Sending switched off in the mail plugin
WP Mail SMTP’s “Do Not Send”, Post SMTP’s “Log only” and FluentSMTP’s “Simulate Emails” are useful on staging. Copied to the live site, they report every mail as sent while nothing leaves. Operanse counts those as refused: sending is switched off in the mail plugin.

Silence when the site usually sends
Some failures raise no error at all. Once Operanse has learned how much mail this site sends at each hour of the week, it notices when sending stops in an hour that is normally busy.
41 orders placed, no confirmation sent
An alert that names the mailer and the reason
Example. A refusal rate of 50 % or more across at least three emails is critical, and every critical is messaged.
- observed
- 92 of 98 emails handed to the mailer since 16:00 were refused (94 %)
- reason
- authentication refused
- meanwhile
- 41 orders placed since 16:00
- note
- This is the hand-off to the mailer, not delivery to an inbox.
The alert goes to email, Slack, SMS or WhatsApp. When the mailer itself is refusing, a channel other than email is the one that reaches you.
On Insight, critical alerts can carry an AI review that puts the refusal beside recent changes, such as the mail plugin’s settings being saved.
Coverage and limits
What it covers
- Order email hand-off. Every message WordPress hands to its mailer, and every one refused, by mailer and reason. The hand-off, not delivery.Monitor
- Mail plugins. Any mail sent through wp_mail(), with mailer-specific handling for WP Mail SMTP, FluentSMTP and Post SMTP.
Limits
- It sees the hand-off to the mailer, not delivery. Inbox placement, spam folders and later bounces are not visible.
- It sends no test messages and checks no inbox.
- Silence needs a learned normal: about 48 hours for a daily pattern, two weeks for a weekly one.
- It never records an address, subject, body, header or attachment. It does not resend or fix mail.
Start using it
- Install the plugin from wordpress.org. It is read-only: it cannot change the site.
- Pair the site with the token from your dashboard. Setup, step by step
- Nothing to configure. The plugin finds the mailer on its own and starts counting.

Questions
Can it tell whether an email reached the inbox?
No. A provider can accept a message that later bounces or lands in spam; Operanse sees neither. It observes whether the site’s mail was accepted for sending.
Do I need a particular mail plugin?
No. Anything that sends through wp_mail() is counted. WP Mail SMTP, FluentSMTP and Post SMTP get extra handling so their refusals and switched-off sending are not counted as sends.
Does it read my emails?
No. It records counts, the mailer plugin’s name and a short failure category, nothing from the message.
Which plan includes it?
Monitor and Insight. The free Watch plan does not monitor email.
